Synopsis

"Large animal emergency rescue; The equine component"

This program will introduce and discuss practical knowledge regarding handling horses in emergency and/or difficult situations. Understanding the characteristics of horses in stressful situations and how responders can safely mitigate LAER incidents will be a goal of this class. Rules of engagement, the animal component, and understanding that your apparatus currently carries 95% of the equipment needed to launch a successful LAER will be highlights of this class. Designed for first responders needing an intro to large animal emergency rescue as well as those desiring a refresher.  


Bio

Vicki Schmidt is a firefighter and Training Officer for the Buckfield Fire Department (Maine) and is also a State Fire Instructor with the Maine Fire Services Institute and the Maine Community College System. She has served for over 15 years on the Maine Fire Protection Services Commission as a representative for Maine's Volunteer and On-Call Firefighters. Vicki’s fire service activities also include coordinating Firefighter I & II programs and working to establish Live-Fire Training Facilities in Maine. Fire training specialties include Modern Fuel and Modern Fires, Large Animal Emergency Rescue, and GIS For Emergency Services.
