instructors Corner
WHAT WE OFFER...
The Fire Department Information Conference Atlantic offers Atlantic Canada firefighters workshops on various fire related topics, as well as hands-on sessions, every year, at the beginning of June, over the span of a weekend.
We offer different workshop material every year. Our speakers come from Canada, the United States, and on occasion the United Kingdom. Our workshop sessions last in general 90 minutes, and range from HAZMAT to medical, occupational health and safety, communication, community programs, partnerships between fire departments and the business community, administration, leadership, health and wellness, various firefighting techniques with regards to wildland fires or structure fires, reading smoke, fire investigation, etc.
The conference as it stands now is limited to 400 delegates to keep it manageable based on the assets available to us, and we are booked solid every year. Meals and accommodation are provided on campus, but the Wolfville area offers numerous motels and bed & breakfast, if you wish. Directors, instructors and support staff who are lodged on campus are in a separate building from the students. Saturday night is a social night where everybody get together for a lot of fun, which includes a known local band, with door prizes, etc.
The conference is a great opportunity for networking with other instructors, to exchange or pass along teaching opportunities and to get training ideas.
